Sweet Bear, aka ”The Goodest Boy.” Bear’s story is a bit of a tear jerker so get your kleenex ready. At 8 weeks old, Bear was adopted by a family from BARC (a high intake shelter in Texas). For almost 7 blissful years Bear enjoyed the comforts of a home, a yard, and humans he loved. Each year, Bear’s family would return to the shelter for his vaccines (although they turned down heartworm prevention). This February Bear headed back to the shelter. Since it was his 7th birthday, he assumed it was just for more pesky vaccines. It didn’t take long for Bear to realize something wasn’t right. The paperwork took longer, the people were different, and he was led away from his family down a long hallway and put into a cage. He waited and waited, certain it was a misunderstanding. It wasn’t. For his 7th birthday, Bear lost his home. His family had to move and they didn’t take him with them.
A couple of fosters (one in Texas and one in CO) were determined to turn Bear’s frown upside down and the plan for Bear to come to CO was born. Bear even got a REAL birthday party when he got out!
So, we now have the pleasure of offering this stunning boy for adoption. Bear is soulful, gentle, affectionate, dog friendly, kid friendly (not toddler tested), and ready to take the next step towards his forever. He’s just finished treatment for heartworms so he’s ready to roll. Bear is a smaller guy, around 57 lbs and seems to be a German Shepherd mix. His ideal home will have a fenced in yard and humans willing to continue with the REAL birthday parties he got a taste of in foster.
