Butter's Story

Meet Butter!

Butter is an approximately 1-year-old, Cairn Terrier mix, weighing just 12 pounds, and she is every bit as sweet as her name suggests.

Butter’s journey began on the streets of Houston, where she was found as a stray suffering from a severe flea infestation that caused an allergic reaction and some hair loss. Despite her difficult start, Butter has remained incredibly loving, trusting, and full of joy. Since arriving in Colorado, she has settled into her foster home with remarkable ease and quickly shown everyone what a wonderful companion she is.

One of the most impressive things about Butter is how adaptable she is. After spending time as a stray, she transitioned to life in a home almost immediately. She quickly learned household routines, made herself comfortable, and bonded with her foster family. We expect her to adjust just as well to her forever home.

Butter currently lives with both a large dog and a small dog and gets along great with both. She has the playful energy of a young dog but also knows how to relax and enjoy a cozy nap. She loves attention, happily climbs into your lap for cuddles, and enjoys being close to her people, but she’s also perfectly content to curl up in a dog bed and entertain herself.

For a young dog, Butter is impressively well-mannered. She is fully potty trained, crate trained, and sleeps quietly in her crate overnight and when her foster family is away. She walks nicely on a leash, rides calmly in the car, and has proven to be an easy dog to have around the house. Her foster family would trust her with free-roam privileges because she has been so responsible and well behaved.

Butter’s coat is still growing back after her flea allergy, and every week she looks a little healthier and fluffier. Her adorable underbite gives her a one-of-a-kind smile, and her tongue occasionally gets caught on her teeth, creating an irresistibly cute expression that never fails to make people laugh.

What stands out most about Butter is her cheerful, easygoing personality. After everything she’s been through, she greets each day with a wagging tail and a happy attitude. She is the kind of dog who fits naturally into family life and quickly makes herself at home.

Butter is ready to leave her days as a stray behind and find a family of her own who will shower her every day with the love she deserves. If you’re looking for a small dog with a big heart, a playful spirit, and endless affection to give, Butter may be the perfect match.
