Gus! Man does this dog have a story to tell! Gus first entered MHCR in mid December. He belonged to a homeless man. A Good Samaritan witnessed Gus get hit by a car. After a few days of watching him and offering support, the homeless man agreed to give Gus to her so he could get some care. Knowing she was in no position to keep Gus long term, she posted to a FB group for help and well, the rest is history. When Gus visited the specialty vet, it was then we learned the true extent of his injuries. He was suffering from bilateral CCL tears (this means both knees were shot)! He needed two intense surgeries, called TPLO. Due to Gus’s size, the surgeries couldn’t be done at the same time. They needed to be spaced out. This is why he’s just now hitting the adoption floor in April.
Gus’s foster mom has gotten to know him so well during his 4 month stay with her. He a mellow boy and wants nothing more than to be with his humans. He’s cat friendly, house trained, dog friendly, and good with older kids. He’s not been around young ones so we can’t speak to that. He enjoys couch time and would 100% curl up in bed with his peeps if allowed. Gus’s ideal human will work from home. He won’t do well if he’s left alone for long periods. They also will appreciate the Mastiff art he’s gotten so good at producing (some of you may know of this, it’s called “slinger” art). Gus is over 125 lbs. He’s a big, giant, sweet, teddy bear looking for someone to love.
