Oh Cocoa, her story is unlike any other. Cocoa is a 1 year old, 50 ish lbs, Pyrenees mix. She’s a very petite girl though, which makes calling her a Pyrenees a bit of a challenge. Cocoa is dog friendly and even seems to be fine with her foster’s feline friend. She loves to sleep with her foster mom and is well mannered in her home. She has the cutest head tilt you’ve ever seen and her ears are velvety soft. Cocoa is good motivated and learns very quickly!! So, what makes her unique? She sounds like every other amazing rescue dog out there. Well, let me tell you. When Cocoa arrived, her foster mom noticed she seemed to be unsettled and panted a lot. She went to the vet and got some X-rays done and that’s when the crazy story begins. Cocoa’s chest and abdominal cavity were FULL of fluid. She was, indeed, quite uncomfortable. Cocoa got in to see our friends at CSU ASAP and it was discovered she had a hole in her diaphragm. This was allowing her organs to come up into her chest cavity. But, that’s not all. It was also discovered that Cocoa was pregnant. This sweet girl, just a baby herself, facing such a huge medical obstacle. The specialists agreed Cocoa’s pregnancy could not sustained. She had surgery the very next day to repair her diaphragm and get spayed, thus ending her pregnancy. Her turnaround since surgery has been remarkable! She’s a happy, gleeful girl and now that’s she’s feeling back to herself (something we hadn’t seen before), it made it all worth it!
