Melia is a nearly 50 pound, 2-4 year old, bulldog mix who was saved from a high kill shelter in New Mexico, where she had been picked up as a stray and never reclaimed. This poor girl has had it rough. She had some very suspicious infected wounds on her sides when she arrived to rescue. We are unsure what originally caused them; we’ve considered abuse by humans or trauma from fencing but it is impossible to tell as they were festering and infected in the shelter for three weeks before she narrowly made it out.
She is healing up great now and is the sweetest dog who loves people. She reminds us every day about resilience, having a positive attitude, and enjoying every day. She is a well behaved, pretty quiet, mellow girl who loves strolling, sunbathing, walks, car rides, hanging out with her people (including kids!), and soaking up all the attention. She likes being the princess of the house and takes the role seriously. She is crate trained and seems to be housetrained.
Meila can co-exist with dogs ok most of the time but could take them or leave them. She likes going for walks with them and calmly hanging out but makes it known she has no desire for boisterous play or dogs coming near her kennel space or food bowl (though she is fine with humans around her bowl, taking things from her mouth, or her foster mom shoving antibiotic pills down her throat because she refused to take them otherwise 😂). She will be fine being an only dog or possibly would enjoy another calm dog in her forever home. This is a very special girl that deserves a very loving family. Could it be you?
