This stunner is Asher! He is thought to be around 9-11 months old and a pitbull mix (we think pitbull lab type mix as he sees to have a lot of lab tendencies). He is 46 pounds currently and is working on gaining a bit of weight. He was saved from a high kill shelter in Roswell, New Mexico after being picked up as a stray and never reclaimed.
We don’t get the impression that Asher has had much life experience or been treated very well before rescue, but he is such a resilient boy. He loves anyone that is nice to him and bonds quickly, is learning that people are good to him now, and has the most soulful, loving eyes anywhere! He is very eager to please and is obsessed with food of all sorts. Literally, food is probably is his favorite thing, and he benefits from a slow feeder bowl because of it 😂. He loves snuggles and seems to really like kids and playtime. He has adorable antics, a zest for life, and the ‘zoomies.’ However, he is not over the top with his energy and very much enjoys naptime as well.
He has been in his foster home with a family since 2/18/23. In his foster home, he is being crate trained, which is going very well. Asher quickly picks up on routines. He quietly sleeps through the night in his crate and does not have accidents with his regular timed trips outside. So far he has done well with other dogs, car rides, and vet visits. This boy needs some continued training as he is still quite puppy-like and has no clue how big he is but has a ton of potential and is a quick learner with a strong desire to learn what is expected of him and be the best boy!
His fosters think he would do well in a variety of environments. He will benefit most from someone committed to continuing to give him positive life experiences, training, and likely would adjust quickest to having another dog to look up to and follow their lead. He may be too boisterous for a very senior dog (or infant children), but he would do well with a young dog or middle aged one and also loves the three year old child in his foster home. He also loves having a yard to run in and would like one in his forever home, though this is not mandatory if his owner is committed to taking him out frequently for activity and walks.
