Meet Asher! This 6-month-old little guy has quite the story. He was saved from the euthanasia list in Texas with just hours to spare. Sadly, by the time we saw his plea, his mom had already been euthanized. We wish his story had started differently, but we’re determined to make sure the rest of it has a very happy ending!
Asher was nervous in the shelter, but put him in a home and he’s a completely different dog. He’s affectionate, cuddly, playful, and just an all-around fantastic puppy. He loves kids, gets along great with other dogs, enjoys toys, playing fetch, and tearing around the backyard with the occasional case of the zoomies.
He’s also got a pretty impressive off switch for a puppy. He’ll happily play, but he also knows how to nap, chill throughout the day, and lounge on the couch next to you while you binge-watch Netflix at night. Basically, he’s got the energy for fun but understands the importance of a good couch potato session.
Asher is crate trained (although he had a few things to say about it during his first couple of nights), does great in the car, and is doing awesome with housetraining. He’s a smart cookie and has even figured out how to ring the bell on the back door when he needs to go outside!
He also takes his watchdog responsibilities VERY seriously. If a person, dog, squirrel, or probably a suspicious leaf enters his line of sight in the backyard, you’ll hear about it. We’re not entirely sure whether the husky or beagle in him is responsible for his impressive vocal abilities, but this boy can HOWL. 😂 He’s not exactly intimidating, though. If a stranger approaches, he’ll happily wag his entire body and offer kisses through the fence.
For that reason, a home with a privacy fence or a yard without a lot of foot traffic nearby would be ideal. Your neighbors will thank you.
One more thing: Asher looks considerably bigger in pictures than he actually is. He’s currently only about 27 pounds, so don’t let those photos fool you! Based on photos of his mom, we suspect Asher is a beagle/husky mix.
Asher is a pretty wonderful combination of playful, affectionate, smart, and cuddly. He’s ready to leave his rough start behind and find a family who will love him as much as he’s guaranteed to love them.
