Birdie is a 7 year old Shepherd mix that weighs around 50 lbs. She’s looking for an amazing forever family she can count on. Birdie was originally saved from a high volume shelter in Houston after being picked up as a stray at the end of January. She cleared a low grade heartworm infection and retired from street life. Now, she is a healthy, loving girl. She loves kids, rides well in the car, and is crate trained and housetrained. She has proven herself to be a good house guest. She thrives with solid leadership from humans, who she very much wants to please and learn from, and is a very smart, soulful dog.
Birdie found a home for a few months with a single Mom new to dog ownership, but she was recently returned due to problems with pulling/leash walking and also her ability to jump her shortish (3-4 foot) fence in her curiosity/adventures. Birdie promises to keep all the unwanted little critters out of her forever family’s yard due to her chase/prey drive. Thus, we discourage a home without small furry pets or chickens, but Birdie does very well with other dogs with appropriate introductions. She also would not mind being a one and only. Birdie also walks much better on a leash with a good collar/leash set up and leadership, though she is also fine hanging out at home with her people and doing whatever they are. She does love a good bed and snuggle sesh! So if you have a decent fenced yard and love to give, please apply for this girl!
