Daisy's Story

Daisy is a 5 year old Lhasa Apso who is house-trained, cat-friendly, dog-friendly (but picky and particular), and trustworthy with free roam.  She rides beautifully in a car, walks well on a leash, and is responsive to training and positive reinforcement. She loves playing with toys and napping in the sunshine.

Humans have misunderstood and failed Daisy repeatedly throughout her life.  Because of this, she is a repeat offender with a multiple bite record and history of aggression. She requires ongoing training and is considered a SPECIAL NEEDS BEHAVIORAL CASE.

DAISY IS NOT A LAP DOG.  Despite her 20lb low-rider stature, she is a hardy and athletic girl who loves hiking, camping, and outdoor adventures.  She will suit a more active person – one who can manage her complex guarding behavior and keep her busy.

When she is able to trust humans and shed those layers of mistreatment, she is a fun-loving, affectionate, and eager-to-please companion, begging for belly rubs. She has that classic Lhasa stubborn streak but she also possesses utter ride-or-die loyalty for the person who will put the time and energy into gaining her trust and providing leadership.

Check out some of the characteristics that would make you her perfect ride-or-die match:

  • You are an eternal student and are always open to learning.  Daisy needs someone who is committed to her training and will work with a dog behaviorist on her resource guarding and aggression.
  • You are home often and/or are able to bring Daisy with you. She is trustworthy with free roam but also loves car rides, walks, and being with her people.
  • You are familiar with her breed and are experienced with dogs with resource guarding and aggression issues. Daisy needs a confident leader with strong boundaries.  She needs a human who can be her compass and provide calm and firm direction – not someone who will placate her insecurities and coddle her. Most of her issues derive from 5 years of no leadership, leaving room for her to make up her own dysfunctional behavior and rules.
  • During a stressful situation, you are able to SLOW it down and remain calm.  Due to poor treatment, Daisy has some triggers.  If and when she becomes heightened, her perfect human will become exponentially calmer in that situation.
  • You can channel a late-night smooth-FM DJ’s voice. Daisy likes to keep it fun but mellow. High anxiety, excitability, and insecurity put her into panic mode.  Her Lhasa Apso ancestors were bred to guard Tibetan monasteries, so this girl loves a cool and calm environment.
  • You’ve got will power and gumption. You can resist allowing Daisy on your bed or on the furniture.  This is part of her resource-guarding training.
  • You have boundless patience.  Her foster mom told us that it took over a month to gain Daisy’s trust. But after putting in the work, she says, “That dog would take a bullet for me.”  Her perfect human knows that this is marathon with ups and downs but ultimately, many rewards of companionship.
  • You aren’t a big hugger.  Reading Daisy’s body language is extremely important.  She will not “bite out of nowhere.” She gives miles of warning signs.  You should have knowledge on how to recognize these and act accordingly.

Again, if you are seeking a lap dog, we have many other candidates – but Daisy is not your girl.
Also, due to her work-in-progress with resource guarding, we will only consider applicants WITHOUT CHILDREN in the home.

Daisy requires a person with a great deal of knowledge about her behavioral issues so that she doesn’t end up in the shelter again. Once she trusts that you can lead her in this capacity, that’s when the fun, goofiness, and affection can bloom.  She deserves a perfect match after all of the heartache and abandonment that she’s been through.
And aren’t the very best, true blue friends worth it?
