Sassy “Sassafras,” the fiery little red head, is FINALLY able to look for her true forever home! This 37 lbs girl has had one set back after another, but the time has come. Sassy is now approx 10 months old. She first joined MHCR as a young pup, in the summer of 2023 with her brother and mom (whom have both since been adopted). Sass is a spirited pup who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it. She takes a bit to trust new people but is quickly won over with yummy treat. She is so very smart and has a wide variety of tricks up her sleeve. Sassy is crate trained, house trained, uses a doggie door, and is non-destructive in a home (although food on the counter is up for grabs). She loves car rides, taking walks, going for swims, playing in the hose, and cuddling in bed. Sassy has been around kiddos and does well, however she does not like a lot of unsolicited body handling. While she’s not outgoing or overly social, she does well on hikes, restaurant outings, etc. However, her humans have to help in these situations by not forcing her to accept unsolicited affection. Sassy lives peacefully with free range chickens, multiple dogs, and has lived with a cat. She does best with large, playful dogs that love her spicey personality and yet aren’t afraid to put her in her place. It will take her a few days to establish new doggie relationships so her forever family should allow her that time. She’s looking for a home with a yard and humans that are calm, strong leaders. There’s really no adventure she’s not up for!
Sassy, unfortunately, didn’t get the best genetics and she’s already had surgery on her elbows (they won’t require future treatment) and had one of her hips replaced. She handled these surgeries like a champ and is presently on her 8 weeks of restricted exercise from her hip surgery.
